Hello! We’re Smallworks and we’re from Vancouver BC, Canada.

Vancouver is an incredibly dense city, hemmed in by mountains and the ocean; we struggle to house all the people in this city. People here have been building laneway homes since 2010. Our Founder, Jake Fry, was instrumental in getting the original bylaw adopted by Vancouver’s city council.

One thing we’ve noticed in the intervening 10 years and 250+ small homes built, is that these pressures aren’t unique to Vancouver. In fact, we get daily emails from people in different parts of North America looking for our house plans, or for us to build them a home in their backyard – wherever that may be. Until now, this isn’t something we’ve been able to help with, but in late 2020 we will begin shipping a prefabricated home to select areas of California.
