The Mackenzie Lane House is a 900 square foot, 2 bedroom dwelling arranged on one level.

The lack of stairs opens up the design of a laneway house considerably. In this example, the one level plan allows for a large kitchen and living area and a quaint dedicated dining room off the kitchen. The dining room is able to be completely enclosed with a sliding sectional barn door system.

The two bedrooms each have a roomy closet. But the street side bedroom has the added bonus of a comfortable bay window set into the east wall facing the bed.

The 13 foot vaulted ceiling allows for the mechanical room to be tucked into the small attic which also doubles as precious storage space for seasonal and rarely needed keepsakes. The same vaulted ceiling also features a huge window at its north facing apex that bathes the kitchen and living area in light.

The home’s finishes, with soft colours and fine woodworking, are an exercise in understated elegance with an underlying sense of durability.
