The blessings of a new baby often come hand in hand with a squeeze in a family’s housing situation. With immediate family located in their favourite neighbourhood, the answer for this young couple was clear: the lane. This South Vancouver loft was designed to embody multi-generational living. A shared back-patio, accessed through Westeck french doors, and built-in bench seating in the dining area will happily accommodate that family dinner party.

With space at a premium, our designers cleverly situated the full bath on the landing between the two stories; this allowed for a nook in living area for the laundry, and a storage space below, accessed from the exterior. The second level’s glass railing that overlooks the living space was an intentional choice to allow light from above to reach the main level without compromising flow.

The home’s finishes received an enthusiastic response from everyone involved in the project. Our clients and designers thoughtfully chose timeless and elegant hardware and millwork. Bold brass adornment and oak shelving in the kitchen is tucked between the custom built cabinets. The resulting laneway house is a home for this family to make memories for years to come.
